The brushstroke series are three paintings that were the first completed after the birth of my daughter. With the transformation required by motherhood, I became further interested in the body and mind connection. These paintings were begun with my eyes closed and focusing on movement and feeling. Aspects of this were inspired by my experience living at a Zen Buddhist Center in 2016, and further directed by a recognition of repeated gestures and forms in my paintings arising without intention. The presence of these patterns connect with my study of the nervous system and subconscious mind, the focus of my work today.
As the title suggests, this particular piece features bright blue and yellow paints and is the softest of the three compositions. White was used throughout to blend and creates the illusion of form in this single-session painting.
