Palette Painting VI is part of a special series where I turn my painting palettes into finished works of art. While working on another painting, I noticed how beautiful and exciting the colors looked as they mixed on the palette. Because I wasn’t thinking too hard about it, the colors came together in a fun and free way. That’s when I started using small canvases as palettes—letting them become their own unique pieces.
This painting has a bright orange area that really stands out. After I finished using it as a palette, I came back and added the orange color by instinct—without a plan, just following the feeling. That orange now covers about one-fourth of the painting and pops beautifully against the deep blues and purples underneath. The bold contrast gives the piece a striking, graphic look that catches the eye right away.
You can hang it in any direction, but it's ready to go in the way I like best.
