Peace

The Morse Code pieces are a series of mandala’s created by weaving Morse Code rhythms onto a grid. This technique was inspired by my grandfather and also another work, “Color Sequence”. There have been multiple evolutions as the pieces have continued and “Peace” is the first in that it is painted with watercolor and features imitation silver leaf in the spaces that are what I refer to as “through silence”. The through silence term comes from the fact that these moments are silent no matter what direction the morse code is turned.

Two patterns emerge in the creation of a Morse Code piece. The first is the form, which is where sound is produced in the rhythm and the second is the through silence. Silver leaf is placed in these moments because it allows a mirror to be created where the viewer of the piece is capable of seeing their reflection. “Peace” is considered an in process sketch for larger bodies of work that will measure approximately 4’ square. It is the first of this exploration and a historical artwork in the conceptualization of this collection of art.
