Furnace Mountain Cliff
One of my favorite things about living at the Furnace Mountain Zen Center was exploring the land. Huge monolithic cliff walls create sculptural forms throughout the landscape and often emerge from spaces that appear out of no where. This painting illustrates that quality of shifting as the massive forms seem to appear and fade simultaneously. The utilization of blue throughout its composition as well as the brushstrokes used creates a flickering affect as if the foreground and background remain interchangeable.
