Palette Painting II
The Palette Painting series is a study of the unconscious mind in process of painting. As I worked on a particular piece, I realized that the blending that occurred on the palette was equally interesting to what I was working on. With my cognitive focus on the other piece, there emerged a playfulness and freedom in the palettes that began to intrigue me. It was soon after this realization that I bought many smaller canvases to then use as palettes and complete their own paintings on.
Palette Painting II features dramatic value contrasts that create a great deal of depth and interest given its small scale. The play between rectangular and curved brush strokes feel like architectural frameworks accented by landscape. Having plenty of canvas showing through provides a lovely balance to the dark hues and movement in the piece.
This piece can be displayed in any orientation. It is wired and shown in my preferred direction.
