Palette Painting III
The Palette Painting series is a study of the unconscious mind in process of painting. As I worked on a particular piece, I realized that the blending that occurred on the palette was equally interesting to what I was working on. With my cognitive focus on the other piece, there emerged a playfulness and freedom in the palettes that began to intrigue me. It was soon after this realization that I bought many smaller canvases to then use as palettes and complete their own paintings on.
Palette Painting III features many warm hues and occasional cool highlights that provide great interest. In this piece I was seeking a particular color that occurred with white added. The result for this palette painting is a beautiful contrast of hard edges blended into white that create a feeling of illumination throughout the piece. Playful scrubbing strokes break up the monolithic quality of the rectangular forms.
