Midnight Lakeside Forest Plein Air
This is truly a one of a kind piece.
At the time I painted this, I was living outside in a covered pavilion space next to this pond and the moon and night sky was absolutely captivating. So what did I do? Set my alarm for 3 AM and woke up to paint. My desk was set up facing the opening of the pavilion and I painted in the dark, using my headlamp to make sure I was using the paints I had preplanned in previous days. This is a mixed media with walnut ink made by a friend of mine as the underpainting and is finished with watercolor and white ink for highlights.
As much as I’m up at 3 AM these days as a mother, I can’t say when I will be out painting like this again. It is definitely on my “future list” of paintings to revisit.
There is another painting that compliments this piece and was done at the same time period.
