Wildwood
I grew up spending my summers in the mountains of North Georgia and often I purposefully stayed up all night or woke up before sunrise so I could watch the forest come alive with the day. Even before the sun had kissed the hillside, rustlings of birds emerged and by the time it was above the mountains a chorus greeted the day. Wildwood is a painting dedicated to those early sunrise moments, wrapped in a blanket and sitting quietly in the cool summer morning. It is equally complex and unified, with refreshing violets and oranges, dancing branches and shifting highlights. Studying distinct moments of the painting can appear almost as another composition while stepping back it is clear how they all play together in a vortex like circulation. It speaks to the infinite potential of the forest and the winding labyrinths of trees and branches that make up the Appalachian forest.
