Palette Painting VI
The Palette Painting series is a study of the unconscious mind in process of painting. As I worked on a particular piece, I realized that the blending that occurred on the palette was equally interesting to what I was working on. With my cognitive focus on the other piece, there emerged a playfulness and freedom in the palettes that began to intrigue me. It was soon after this realization that I bought many smaller canvases to then use as palettes and complete their own paintings on.
Palette Painting VI has a bold accent color that immediately draws attention. Like some other palette paintings, I revisited the piece after it was complete as a palette and added a body of color to its composition. This process is entirely intuitively lead and the purpose is to create without any thought and to move with action inspired from that space. The result with this particular piece is a bold and graphic orange that highlights a fourth of its total composition. The way that it contrasts with the palette colors, mostly being dark blues and purples, creates a distinct graphic quality that catches attention quickly.
This piece can be displayed in any direction. It is portrayed and wired in my preferred orientation.
